The Investiture of the Gods - Na Zha

　　In the last year of Yin Dynasty, the wife of the General Commander of Chentang Pass Li Jing, gave birth to a ball of flesh after three-years pregnancy. Once Li Jing saw it, he cut open the ball, and here came his third son- Na Zha, with Universe Ring in hands and Red Armillary Sash on the body, he is the incarnation of the spiritual pearl, and Jiang Ziya’s vanguard. The next day of the birth, Taiyi Zhenren came to visit, named the boy Na Zha, received him as an apprentice, and left.

　　Na Zha was stubborn and unruly by natural. When he was seven, he went sightseeing out of Chentang Pass during the summertime, it was burning hot so he took a bath in Nine Bay River, where the water was dyed by his Red Armillary Sash, and the river was shaken severely by his Universe Ring. Dragon King of the East Sea’s third son, Ao Bing, who’s been sent to investigate what happened, had a fight with Na Zha, and been killed. Na Zha even pulled out Ao Bing’s tendon. Dragon Kings of the four Seas all came to Chengtang Pass for condemning. In order to avoid his parents involving, Na Zha killed himself by cutting down one of his arms, ripping open the belly, carving apart the intestine and picking out his bones in the moment.

       After his death, his soul could not return to heaven, therefore, he went into his mother’s dream and asked her to build a temple for him, as long as he has been incensed for three years, he can reincarnate again. There were many believers came to Na Zha temple. One day, Li Jing found out the temple, he destroyed the statue of Na Zha by whip, and burned the temple with anger. Although Na Zha had been incensed by the joss sticks for half a year, he still cannot form his body; therefore, Taiyi Zhenren took the lotus from Jade Lotus Pond to construct a human body for him, then, Na Zha revived.

　　After the reincarnation, Na Zha continued to learn martial art from Taiyi Zhenren, and descended to the earth for helping Jiang Ziya’s uprising, which was aimed to send the punitive expedition against King Zhou’s brutal and corrupted ruling. Finally, King Zhou had been overthrown, and changed to Zhou Dynasty. Jiang Ziya obeyed Primeval Lord of Heaven’s order, conferred the title of gods upon those who strived for the nation, Li Jing and his three sons also became the Saints.
　　In addition, cartoon “Nezha conquering the sea” was produced by China Shanghai Animation Film Studio in 1979, the story is similar to Fengshen Yanyi (The Investiture of the Gods). This cartoon tells the history of Na Zha with abundant delicate characterizations and the plots, which is a classic work.
