Project Elements

Combining our project with the Curriculum from Grade 1 to 9

Our project of 2012 International Schools CyberFair is connected with the Curriculum from Grade 1 to 9.  During the project, we learned the importance of cooperation and developed the ability of self-learning.

Language Learning Area

During the project, we improved our language abilities by listening, speaking, reading and writing.  For example, we held a pre-interview before formal interview to learn the skills of asking questions properly.  During the interview, we listened carefully and kept notes.  After the interview, we shared our feelings with each other and kept track of the interview process on the web page of International School CyberFair.

   

Social Studies Area

This Social Studies Area deals with the knowledge formed from self-integration, the interaction between human and the environment.  Our project is about A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation which is derived from a touching story happened in Changhua.  As a member of Changhua, we desired to know the history of it, supported the volunteers, and developed the abilities of social participation and practice.  For instance, by the lunch delivery, we realized that many people are in need around us.  We should pay more attention to the community.

   

Arts and Humanities Learning Area

Through the project, we have the chances to visit Landsborough’s Graft With Love Memorial Hall.  We knew the meanings of the exhibits.  For example, the desk which sounds as its drawer is pulled is practically theft-resistant and melodic.  Besides, in the visit during the period of Chinese New Year, we made cards and bookmarkers to show our thanks.  To make the web pages better, we illustrated for web pages outline.  Regarding the activities of hair donation, we made posters of "donators as angels" and posted it up in the school.  Furthermore, we held performing arts by editing a hair donation situation comedy.

  

Integrative Activities Learning Area

We took part in activities such as meal delivery, cancer patient care, and dementia prevention.  We learned that every greeting can warm the heart of people.  We cultivated communication skills by doing project and learning to serve and taking care of others through voluntary works.

   

Significant Issues-Information Education

We used computers to design the web pages, search information on the internet, and keep our work schedule on line.  We gathered information from the internet, organized data and wrote the project by using Microsoft Office Word, made letters of thanks and illustration with image software, and created flashes and completed the web pages with Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Flash, Corel Draw, Inkscape and PhotoCap.

Application
In the computer room, each member used a computer and read books respectively to gather information.  We learned to use different software by putting our discussion and web pages making into practice.

Interview

We confirmed with interviewee about the place and time for the interview by telephone. Before the interview, we organized the lists of the questions on computer and printed out the lists.  We also recorded the interview by video recorder for reference.  Besides, we had photos of the interview by digital camera.  Last, we took notes of interviewees’ answers with pen and paper.

We had field trips to A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation and Landsborough’s Graft With Love Memorial Hall and had interviews with clients.  We used a video recorder to record the whole process, a digital camera to take photos of it, pens and paper to take notes.

We made the screenplay by computer, shot the play by a video recorder, took photos of the play by a digital camera, and edited the situation comedy clips by a digital image and sound editor.

There were two kinds of illustrations. One is the drawings by hand.  Then, we scanned the drawings and edited by PhotoCap.  The other are the pictures and images created by using Inkscape.

We stored the information in the computer.  We printed the revised data for correction and discussion.

 

The Ping-He Doves act as "ambassadors" in this project

During the project, we understood A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation in depth; we knew the spirit, structure, and ministries of the Foundation. Besides, we knew the Landsboroughs’ contribution in the medical history of Changhua.  Additionally, we hope to have more people involved in charity.

The Ping-He Doves expect to become "the seeds of love" to A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation.

The Ping-He Doves could be the seeds of A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation by the project.  We learned to treat others with love, caution, patience, effort, and consideration.   We shall put the "five-star" principle into practice in our daily life.  We, The Ping-He Doves, expect to be the seeds to give love to the society.  By gathering our passion and energy for the Foundation, we believe the patients and clients will be taken with care very well.  We believe kindness is a seed in human beings.  When the seed turns into a flower, people learn to respect and help each other will make the world better.

The Ping-He Doves expect to become "the bridge of love" to the community.

Through the project, The Ping-He Doves hope to be the bridge between the Foundation and the community.  We introduced the Foundation to community and hoped people in our community to become the volunteers for helping others.  On the other hand, the residents in need can apply to the Foundation for services, including taking training programs, and having home service and meal service.

The Ping-He Doves expect to become "the pioneers of love" to the classmates in school.

We hope our classmates as well as their friends and relatives to join us for giving service and assistance to others like the volunteers do.  We can be contributive by promoting hair donation one of the ministries of the Foundation.  We can tell others about the activity and encourage people to donate their hair for cancer patients.  Welcome to join us.

Impact on community

A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation is a local organization of charity in Changhua, but few people know about it.  Luckily, we had the chance to invite the Foundation for lectures in our school due to the project.  We also made hair donation situation comedy for promotion.  We hope that people in the community have the opportunity to know this local organization, and to help others selflessly.  Meanwhile, we use Facebook to let people all over the world know the Foundation ministries.

   

Community involvement

Taking part in International Schools CyberFair competition is a special experience we had never had before.  We are grateful that we have got a lot of assisstance from different people.  The completion of the project attributes to many people in the community.

Field Trip & Information Offering

We appreciate the Foundation for their help in visit. They gave us a hand in our visiting as well as all arrangement for visiting schedule and meal delivery. They guided us to visit the Memorial Hall and Our Home Client Service Center.

When we were in need of related photos and information, they gave them to us immediately.

Meal Delivery

We are thankful for our parents and the Foundation.  Our parents spent time riding us to visit, interview and deliver meals.  They also helped to prepare gifts.  The Foundation routed us to deliver meals.

Situation Comedy & School Lecture

To make the situation comedy "Short Hair for Strong Love", Our Home Cancer Patient Service Center of the Foundation lent us the wigs.

CEO of the Foundation (Ms. Chan Li-Ju) gave an educational lecture on dementia in our school.

Facebook

There is age limitation of applying for the Facebook account.  We asked our teacher for creating a Facebook page to build a closer relationship with others.  We discussed and designed the page and invited our cyber friends to join hair donation.

  

Citation of sources

Our project is presented as a web site, the text, illustrations, and photos should be subject to the concept of respecting "Intellectual Property Rights".  The web page was reorganized and written by ourselves.  We are sincerely grateful to A Skin-Graft With Love Foundation for the authorization of the information. The Foundation signed the letter of authority.  We indicated the sources of the reference on each web page.  Meanwhile, we would like to remind you that you must obtain a letter of authority before using the text, illustrations, and photos on the web site.
