It is hard to believe, but they have had a medical team in Smangus for a long time. The team is formed of doctors and nurses who are from the department of family practice in Taipei Mackay Memorial Hospital.

The medical team comes Smangus every second Thursday, and the major number of patients are patients with chronic diseases.

In addition to the doctors of the department of family practice, dentists come to check the teeth of residents without a fixed schedule. They usually come once a month and notify the tribe before they come. Therefore, people treat these medical teams with respect, as their own family physicians.

We asked out of curiosity, “Why do you come here to serve?”

One doctor told us, with a smile, "Transportation on Hsinchu’s mountain is difficult. If we do not control diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic high blood sugar, they may cause complications of myocardial infarction, etc., so we must control these diseases to reduce the risk of complications."

We can tell by how the medical team treats Smangus residents, and we have the highest respect for their benevolence!
