/Chieftain/ |
In the warm log cabin, there was a melodious sound coming out. A kind gentle old man was blowing the Atayal traditional instrument -
Gan mouth string
. He is the object of our interview - Icyeh Sulung, chieftain of Smangus. |
|
Through the interview, we understood that the co-operation system is not including every B & B, there are still two B & B which are unwilling to join. However, even they are unwilling to join, the chieftain still thinks they are a part of the tribe as long as they comply with the rules of the tribe - Not selling lands to the consortium, not smoking and getting drunk. As a result, they can share the tribal resources. |
Chieftain said that the tribe's living standard has been improved after promoting the common business model. In the early year, people who stayed in the tribe could only earn two or three thousand dollars a month for living by selling mushrooms. In contrast, everyone can receive twelve thousand dollars for salary per month now. Moreover, the organization provides the fund for tribal children to have a complete education. Also, the elderly can receive full medical subsidies. |
Chieftain makes three wishes for the future of Smangus: |
1. |
Every step of the tribe development is steady. It would rather be slow, but steady. Smangus’ own way should be walked out step by step. |
2. |
Every child of the tribe has a good complete education. |
3. |
Everyone can take good care of his/her body. |
|
Chieftain is concerned about the well-beings and rights of the tribe. Obviously, he takes a good care of his people. |
After completing the interview of the Chieftain, I found that he deserves to be recognized as a good chieftain. His vision, wisdom, and the attention on the ethnic people are venerable! I believe Smangus people are also proud of him! |
