/The establishment of Branch Campus/
There is no primary school in Smangus during the early years; children had to go to the Shin Kong primary school that on the opposite side of mountain.
The distance of Shin Kong tribe and Smangus tribe seems close, but two tribes are separated by a steep Tuckerjin valley. When the road had not been built yet, the children needed to walk along the V-shaped trail down to the Tuckerjin valley first, and then climbed to the Shin Kong primary school. This route to school takes more than 8 km and at least 4 to 5 hours, so children had to leave their parents and board school from the first grade.
In 2003, Smangus tribe did a branch class of first grade. In 2004, Typhoon Nari caused serious damage to the road. After the Smangus people petitioned, the Smangus branch campus of Shin Kong primary school was established, then all the students of Smangus finally do not have to board at the Shin Kong primary school.
Chunghwa Telecom Foundation donated the telecommunication hardware and software system to the Smangus branch campus in 2006. With the telecommunication system, the students and teachers of Smangus branch campus could participate the course of study and discussion of the Shin Kong primary school through video, the volunteer of the auxiliary class center can also do interactive teaching with the tribal children through computer video.
There are a kindergarten and a primary school in Smangus. Children and parents do not hurry to go to school in the morning and do not worry about the road will be damaged by a heavy rain. The study road of Smangus becomes broader and more convenient.
