The people of Smangus deeply understand the forests and natural resources are the largest assets of the tribe. To maintain the sustainable development of the tribe, they must protect this wonder land, and the first step is to investigate resources of traditional areas.

With the leadership of elders, experts and scholars, they completed the resource survey of plants, birds and animals of "giant tree trail," "Ecological Park Trail," " Slibu Trail" and "Mysterious Valley Trail."

They found that large animals (such as the Formosan black bear, Taiwan sambar, goats, Muntjac, ... and so on) and mandarin duck inhabiting on their historic area almost disappeared through the survey, they know that only by giving animals a living space and a breathing opportunities and can the animal species live forever.
