/Taking Lessons from Outside/
In order to operate B&B more successfully and to develop more skilled people in the tourism business, the Smangus began a series of learning activities from outside world.

They were impressed by the fact that the Shanmei village had set up the Dana Yi Valley Ecological Park as one of public property in the village of Chiayi. People of Shanmei village already set up a guardian committee for the establishment of River Protection, which is to automatically, independently and autonomously check the operation in the community.
The Haucha tribe in Wutlai Township, Pingtung, still has many traditional stone houses built by the Rukai tribe. Lively columns inside the ancestral spirits of the snake sculpture in stone houses has made the Haucha tribe built the best attractions.
Bunun Cultural and Educational Foundation rebuilt the Taitung Bunun life style for other ethnic groups to experience the life of the Bunun tribe. This achievement has brought local people employment and set the best model.
In Pingtung, the Shandiman tribe added modern concept into Aboriginal totem pole Wood and stone houses, helping the local tribes but keeping the original style.
All these experiences made Smangus elders begin to think which approach is the most sustainable and suitable for their tribe.
