/The Establishment of Smangus Route/
Finding the giant trees turned the switch of establishing Smangus route.
Before the giant trees were found, Smangus was almost isolated from civilization. It was the only tribe in Taiwan that didn’t have a route for cars; the impression that Smangus gave to the outside world before was distant and mysterious that it got a name, ‘‘Black Tribe’’ .To contact the outside world, people must walk three to four hours, first they had to walk down the mountain to valley Tucker Jinxi, and then climbed to Shin Kong tribal, while all materials and stocks must be carried by human in the Mountain. When the children went to school they must also walk to the Shin Kong tribal school.
In 1995, Hsinchu county’s mayor, Tseng-Chung Fan, visited Samngus and was surprised by the tourism potential of giant trees. He then demanded speeding up to build commuting route. In 4th quarter, 1995, Smangus finally owned its 16 kilometer long commuting route.
All materials and stocks must be carried by human in the Mountain. Close to Smangus tribe.
