／Smangus Ancient Trail／

The " Smangus Ancient Trail " connects Shiuluan Village, Smangus and Yuanyang Lake. The total length of the trail is about eighteen to twenty kilometers long. In the early years, it was the main trail of the Smangus tribe.

Smangus is located in the junctions of Hsinchu, Yilan and Taoyuan. It is in Jianshih Township, Hsinchu County. However, in the early years the people of Smangus tribe used the Smangus Ancient Trail to go east to Yilin County to buy supplements and daily commodities, because there was no route to Hsinchu County.

Although the trial is not very long, it is a difficult and hard journey. A trip takes one to two days at least.

While the route from Hsinchu County to Smangus is built, fewer and fewer people take the trail. Therefore the landscape of the trail retains a scene of the primeval forest, and has become a favorite trail for hikers contrarily.
