The first day of Winter vacation, we went to visit Fengyuan Relay Station, which was next to our
school. There were a lot of equipment and the electrical voltage of each
was quite high. Also, one of the equipment was quite cold due to the AC
being turned on high all the time ¡V it was for heat dissipation. Going
further inside, we saw the main switch for equipment power. There was this power
generator, which was very expensive. One day, it was raining and the
lighting struck the power generator. Because the power generator was
expensive the repair fee was expensive. The worse part was that it used to
be that the generator was struck twice by lighting each year. Therefore,
they decided not to turn on the power generator during rainy days to avoid
lighting strikes. I think they paid dearly for the year when the lighting
struck twice.

Visited BCC Fengyuan Relay
Station next to Wun De Elementary School. I saw some instruments for
transmitting waves and for some of them, one had to line up two to receive
signals. For others, each could receive the signal from any direction. It¡¦s
just that some had stronger signals and some had weaker. If the wave
encountered a skyscraper, it would ¡§do its best¡¨ to penetrate it and if it
couldn¡¦t penetrate, it would ¡§get around¡¨ the skyscraper but the signal
would be weaker. At Fengyuan Relay Station, monitors were used to see if
there were any signal receiving issues for Wufeng and Puli; also if there
were any malfunction with the equipment. For signals that couldn¡¦t be
received, they sent them through satellite. Sometimes, because of regional
issues, programming can be different. For example, one could listen to
¡§Good Evening, the Greater Taichung Area¡¨ in centralTaiwan, but
one may not be able to listen to it in other places.

¡@I was
visiting friend¡¦s home on the first day of winter vacation when our teacher
came and told us that he wanted to take us to tour Fengyuan Relay Station,
next to our school. We saw many antennae when we walked upstairs and there
were countless equipment, each had high voltage. As we walked we arrived at
the equipment with AC turned on very high. Because the equipment gets very
hot, so AC is used to dissipate heat for the equipment. We got to the inner
most room and saw the main power switch as well as a power generator. I
heard that Power generators were expensive and there were 2 inside! The
staff member inside told us that during one thunder storm, the lighting
struck the power generator. Because the power generator was expensive, the
repair fee was quite expensive. But the worse part was that it got struck
twice one year. Therefore, they turn off the power generator during rainy
days to avoid lighting strikes. I think they probably used quite a bit of
budget that year. However, they found ways to resolve the issue, otherwise
something worse could¡¦ve happened.

hours, including the programming at Wufeng and Puli.
