BCC¡¦ s HQ
in New Park period
In 1949, the communist
party took over China.
The staff at BCC transported the broadcasting equipment to Taiwan with
many perils. The HQ of the company was established at New Park, Taipei(currently the 228 Memorial Peace Park).
In 1972, the HQ was moved to ¡§Jen-ai Plaza¡¨ on Jen-ai Rd.This
period was called ¡§New Park Period¡¨.
At this stage,Taiwan was
trying to recover from the war and its people were living in dire situations
and mass impoverishment. In addition of
broadcasting service to people inTaiwan,
BCC was requested by the government to perform international broadcasting as
well as broadcasting toChina.
BCC grew in the difficult condition and became self-sustaining. In 1965, it
began operating as an enterprise, and receiving revenue from advertising. In
addition to be the first broadcasting corporation presenting 24-hour programming
and Frequency Modulation Radio Programs, it created a
host of program that were popular, such as different radio drama performances, ¡§Nightly
Quiz Show¡¨, ¡§9/3 Club¡¨, ¡§Piano and Songs¡¨, ¡§Penglai
Island¡¨, ¡§the Sea of Stars¡¨ and many other programs. The
elderly told us that before TV were popularized, in the 1970s, when people went
out shopping they could listen to BCC all the way down the road without missing
a beat because every store was listening to it! It is not hard to imagine the
popularity of BCC programs back then. Thanks to BCC¡¦s broadcast of Taiwan Youth
Baseball team in the little league world series, much enthusiasm was generated
for baseball domestically.
Also, BCCoften organized troop morale cheering activities, as well as musical
performances, to celebrate the occasion with the troops and civilians and
interact with international broadcasting community at the same time. In
addition, it led the ¡§National Association of Broadcasters, ROC¡¨ to establish China
Television Company, Ltd., BCC has already established itself as the leader of
the domestic broadcasting industry.
