Chang, Jing-Yang, born in Chiayi, has followed Chia-yiCity Chia-yiCharity Organization to the construction sites to build bridges since he was 55 years old.  Later in 1998, he started to serve as the Chief Secretary.  Whoever has got in touch with him said that Chang was a sincere, hard-working, and enthusiastic person.  Growing up in a farming family, he is very humble, reliable, and he never breaks his promises. Every time he was interviewed, there was a big pile of related information.  In fact, the duties of the Chief Secretary include handling the application for building bridges and all the administration of the organization.  He has to be in charge of all the interior affairs.

When he was asked why join this organization, he said the group of people happened to build a bridge behind his house, and he saw them working very hard every week.   He was so touched that he decided to join them determinedly.  It has been 24 years since Chang first joined the group.  He has never complained, nor has he thought of what he has lost.  On the contrary, he has learned and gained a lot.  Even though he is 77 years old now, he will still keep on this job until he can’t do it.

When we asked him if his life had changed since he joined this group, he said his life has become very normal and regular.  He goes to work in the office every day and goes to the construction sites on Sundays.  Therefore, he started to have expectation, and the happiest moment is when the bridge is inaugurated.  He feels the sense of achievement:   he has really helped the society. 

Now he spends most of his time on the organization.  His everlasting belief is that doing something good will make you the happiest person in the world.

Q:Is it very hard work to be the Chief Secretary of the organization?

A:Not really.  It’s my pleasure to be able to serve our society.

Q:What is your everyday job?

A:The interior administration of the organization.

Q:What was your profession before you retired?

A:I was a military officer.

Q:What do you think about Chia-yiCity Chia-yiCharity Organization?

A:It’s a wonderful organization.  Everyone in our society treasures this group and tries to support us.

Q:What will you do if people in the organization don’t agree with one another?

A:In fact, there is very little disagreement.  If it does happen, we will take a vote or consult the experts.

Q:Do you still help at the construction sites?

A:I seldom do now.  Mostly the president of the organization or the Chairman will  take care of them.

Q:When did you start to join the organization?

A:When I was 55 years old.  And I started to serve as the Chief Secretary since 1998.

Q:How old are you now?

A:I’m 77 years old.

Q:What would you like to say to the Chia-yiCharity Organization?

A:I would like to thank everyone for joining us.  Without you, our society would not have had so many miracles.

Q:What are the plans of the Chia-yiCharity Organization for the future?

A:We will hold more activities in the future, and our goal is to extend the good deeds to more areas.
