A year before we sign up for cyber fair contest, we already made up our mind to do research about dragon boat festival. Since our school is pretty close to Taipei Da-jia riverside park, Taipei city government holds International dragon boat race every year, we all see this race as a carnival. It’s actually more than this, dragon boat festival is not a holiday about rowing dragon boat and eating rice dumplings, there should be some more meaning about it.

We’re in our third grade in elementary school, we don’t know much yet. Beside all the knowledge we can get from books or other source about the related activities and art on dragon boat festival, we decided to do on-scene interview.

First we contacted master Liu Qin-Zheng who has been making dragon boat on Jien-tan three-legged crossing. It was May of 2007, master Liu said he almost finish all the dragon boat that Taipei city government ordered. He only had a few days left before he met the deadline. So we hurried to do this interview, luckily, he still had one or two dragon boats that need to be done.

Other than that, we also learned how to make rice dumplings. We had asked quite a few mothers, they all rejected us, either saying that she can not do it, or she can’t do it well, or some said she can’t make good fillings. We turned out to be no one to teach us. Finally, we asked a grandma from our teammates, she not only prepared everything from scratch, she even participated on her own, showed us how to make a perfect rice dumpling. We ended up with a great rice dumpling feast, yummy!

Afterward, we held a grand “Rice dumpling favorite flavor survey” in our school, we numbered all the 133 teachers in school, and then use Excel software to run the random numbers, selected 50 teachers to participate the sample testing and fill out the survey. The next day, we took all the 312 third grade students in school, use their student number to run the random number charts, select another 50 students to participate the sample testing and fill out the survey. [Result please see Survey and Statistics.]

All the rice dumplings at the sample testing were hand made by our parents. What touched us the most is that one grandma made the rice dumplings and steamed them, then sent to Taipei by courier on the very day of our sample testing. She went through all the trouble just to help us finish our project research.

Last, we went to the only one Qu Yuan temple in Taipei city. It rained all day that day, our teammates who were in charge of the interview got soaking wet, from their shoes to clothes, and even their hair, it was quite some hard work they had done.

On the day of dragon boat race, it was scorching hot to the point that we almost got sunstroke. We tried our best, conquered our nervousness, put the English sentences we’ve rehearsed into practice. We interviewed the foreign friends in English, and build a successful diplomatic relationship.

Just as we mentioned above, we pretty much planed the whole project about a year ago. We had done all the preliminary work so far, and were ready to wait for the sign-up of the cyber fair contest.

Now we had complete this webpage, it was a perfect ending for this great journey.
