Curriculum integration

Language

•  Comprehensive reading and writing abilities: In editing the text for use on the website, we have gradually developed the skills to independently write a complete explanatory note.

•  We were told to be patient and listen carefully to what the experts said in the interviews; we were also told to learn how to clearly express our ideas verbally and to formulate questions based on facts.

Social studies

People and time-space: After data collection and onsite inspections, we understand more about the geography and natural environment of our schools, and we love our school and community more.

Integrated skills

From this project, we have learned the importance of preparation, sharing of information and respect for other’s opinions. Also, we also aggressively participated in different activities and experienced life outside of school. Most importantly, we must develop our sense of responsibility.

Natural science

We observed the environment around our school, learned the process of garbage disposal, and participated in environmental monitoring. We discovered that some lab techniques we learned from class, such as measuring water temperature, pH test and conductivity test, may be applied to real-life monitoring of river water and groundwater.

Concern for homeland

We must understand something before we can really love it. After visiting the landfill, we are glad that we have such a clean, sanitary and advanced landfill in Taipei City. We also hope to see the forest sports park built with the landfill’s restoration plan. Though local citizens are not happy with the extension of the landfill, they do approve the landfill’s efforts to feed back to the neighborhood and maintain environmental protection.

Most pictures appeared in this website were taken by us, and others were retrieved from the video data of the Taipei City Government or the Sanzhuku Sanitary Landfill Site. We have endeavored to cite the sources of all materials that used in this website.

Lesson learned

(1) Interpersonal: During all visits and interviews, people knew the purpose of our mission and did their best to help us. This has given us the opportunity to feel the warmth of mankind. We also learned that as long as we are polite, people will like us.

(2) Software: In the project, we have used different software programs, such as Namo, PhotoImpact, Flash and Ulead VideoStudio. In most cases, it was Miss Liang who showed us how to use them, and we just made some changes of the materials with these programs. However, we realized that we must use different software programs in order to produce a complete webpage.

(3) Activity planning: From the project, we understand that besides a good plan, we need preparation, best use of resources and involvement in order to make better achievements.
