The Deng Yun Academy has been destroyed by earthquakes, only Ħ§The Stele of Honor Roll of the Deng Yun Academy Construction Fund DonorsĦ¨ is left.

Starting from 1895, when Taiwan was occupied by the Japanese, the Deng Yun Academy was functioning intermittently.

After two years, the Japanese ruling power requisitioned the rooms and houses of the Deng Yun Academy to set up Hsin Kang Police Bureau of Da Mao Affairs Department of Chia Yi County. The Academy was forced to close.

In 1898, year 31 of the Meiji period, the Japanese established Hsin Kang Public School (later, Hsin Kang Elementary School ) at Old Salt Hall, Song Xia Street, West Gate, which was the estate of the Deng Yun Academy .

They asked the Academy to contribute 300 dollars to the founding funds of Hsin Kang Public School . Thus, the Academy's rooms and houses were occupied and its property taken. The Academy existed in name only.

The earthquakes in 1904 and 1906 razed the Academy to the ground and only Ħ§The Stele of Honor Roll of the Deng Yun Academy Construction Fund DonorsĦ¨ has survived and is now on the campus of Wen Chang Elementary School as a memento of the Academy.

This stele, erected by Chia Yi County Government, tells the history of the Deng Yun Academy , which has been transformed into Wen Chang Elementary School .

The new and old steles tell us about the Deng Yun Academy and remind us of the titbits of its long history.
