Prospects

 

Currently, the SSD and the Kaohsiung Harbor complement each other. However, prosperity in the two areas will inevitable bring along some drawbacks, such as smuggling, price manipulation, etc. Tackling these malpractices will be the focus of the city government. The bright side is a potential virtuous cycle of prosperity bringing in more ocean shipping business, which will provide shoppers in the SSD various goods from all over the world.  

 

Urban planning for a better future

 

In the future, a BOT city bus system may be running in Kaohsiung, which will cater for the need of the public and the disabled and improve the quality of city bus. Parking lots will be built to provide easy parking. Besides, to encourage cycling, cycling lanes and facilities will be built. No.12 pier will be constructed to be the pivot of land and sea transportation and subsequently promote tourism. To prepare for the 2009 World Games, special English courses will be designed for taxi drivers and bus drivers to offer foreign visitors a hassle-free ride around Kaohsiung.   

 

To improve the environment, intensive green projects will be carried out on the Star Boulevard, the Formosa Boulevard and the Shin Kuang Pier. Public toilets will be under a united supervision to guarantee cleanness. Large-scale outdoor disinfection will be carried out to guarantee public hygiene.

 

To promote economic development, the city government will expand marketing for both foreign and domestic investment. The Multi-functional Commerce and Trade Park and other business resources will be used to encourage more investment in Kaohsiung. In addition, reinforcing the attraction of shop streets will increase the number of consumers. To promote tourism, intensive development will be made to offer better facilities and guarantee high quality.

 

The concept and objective of developing the harbor area

 

In the future, more recreational and business facilities will be set up in each of the 22 docks around the Kaohsiung Harbor, such as parks, museums, concerts, conference halls. In addition, artificial islands will be built in the harbor for recreation. Based on the idea of building an international city, urban planning in Kaohsiung will make it connect to the world.
