The Life of Cars and Scooters

The main roads in Kaohsiung are laid out like a checkerboard. As a center of these main roads, visitors can easily locate SSD. While consumers riding scooters mostly visit small shops in SSD, those driving cars tend to visit shopping malls or department stores in this area. 

Since most consumers come to SSD in scooters or cars, parking becomes the main problem in this area. To accommodate to the increasing need of parking spaces, small shops offer special space for scooters in front of their shops, while department stores offer basement parking spaces or free shuttle buses to and fro big parking lot and the department stores. 

Due to the current inconvenient public transportation system, cars and scooters remain the most popular transportation tools in SSD.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Despite the high mobility of cars and scooters, they cause frequent traffic jams and serious air pollution. The city government has been trying to solve these two problems to offer consumers better shopping environment and experience. Only by reducing the use of cars and scooters in SSD can it become a more attractive shopping area.
