南港胡適公園

Description of  local features

Nankang is located in the southeast of the Taipe Basin, south bank of downstream  Keelung River , and north of the Nankang Hill. It is called Nankang, the south harbor in Chinese, because the bay-shaped border between Nankang and Shihjyr forms a nature harbor and because it is located in the south of the  Keeling Rive.

Besides the Nankang Software Park which is a very potential area to the public, the Academia Sinica which brings the sense of culture and academics is located in the district. The Hu Shih Park in the district is not only adjacent to the JZES, Hu Shih was also the promoter of the school. Consequently, we were motivated to conduct an in-depth investigation of this great philosopher in modern China.

Project outline

Outline of the topic research

◎Inside the Hu Shih Park there are the Hu Shih Mausoleum, the Dong Zuo-bin Mausoleum, the Wu Ta-you Monument, and old staff of the Academia Sinica. Though there are mausoleums of many great figures in the intellectual history of  China, they are unlike conventional mausoleums of such kind. In fact, they are humble and simplistic, giving us a quiet and elegant feeling. More importantly, they are friendly to approach.

◎In addition to drawing up a guide for visiting the park attractions in terms of a trail to facilitate people to visit the park, we have visited the Hu Shih Memorial Hall, the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology, the Wu Ta-you Memorial Hall in the Academia Sinica to understand more about life and stories of these great philosophers, scholars and scientists in order to bring something spiritual to visitors on their visit to the park for leisur.

我們採訪時的情景

The Internet

The school website is linked to the Taipe City Education Network Center via a 100MB fiber optic circuit. We worked at the computer classroom of the school every noon when we were at school. Our work included data editing, webpage design and drawing. Also, we stored image and text records in the Miss Liang’s blog.

Problem-solving

(1) Time was pressing and lack of  prior knowledge

Though the idea of participating in the contest grew in September, the planning and research work did not started until November. Miss Liang made the duty assignment very quickly. As all team members were in the same class, it was convenient to contact one another. However, all personages in the project are great and important. As their names are familiar to everybody but people may not know their life and events, Miss Liang asked us to collect information as of these figures in different aspects and to make everything easy to understand.

We met at the computer classroom at lunchtime and the integrated activity time to finish most part of our work. Before the interviews, Miss Liang asked us to prepare the questions for the interviews, make the thank you cards with  非常好色, and the members responsible for the interviews to prepare the profile of the figures. Of course, it took us a long time to write down the schedule on the web. Though the work was hard, we learned a lot from that and found it very interesting.

(2) Never learned how to design a webpage

We have learned how to operate the PhotoImpact in the beginning, and we have never learned how to design a webpage. Fortunately, one of us know how to draw pictures with the software. The three sketches on the homepage were made by him. Miss Liang asked him to take charge of the art design and the rest of us to prepare the texts. Then, Miss Liang showed us how to produce a webpage with the Namo before assigning the duty to us. We discovered that as far as everything is ready, it will not be difficult to design a webpage

Miss Liang teaches us computer and natural science. Therefore, she has helped us solved so many computer operation problems. How lucky we are!

(3)  Lack of experience in creating text files

The writing section was the mist difficult part of the project. Miss Liang kept asking us to write, and we were burning candles at both ends. Even worse, we needed to cite out all the sources for this time. Therefore, we needed to make reference to articles we have collected and to transcribe the interview recordings into text. It was very difficult. We admired so much people who could write good articles.

Miss Liang asked us to pay attention to every tale and story we have read and heard, and to indicate them in special colors in order to arouse the visitor’s interest and attention.

Reflections

From this project, we discovered that there are so many great people, things and events are related to out daily life. These great philosophers, scholars and scientists had great lives that earned our respect. After every interview, the interviewees must encourage us to learn from these great figures. There are so many touching stories about the Hu Shih Park which is adjacent to our school. This makes us feel very proud and special. I believe that we will value and cherish all these and will work harder and harder in our future.
