History Origin

¡@¡@Woodball is a sports activity for people of all ages and it has been rising its popularity in Taiwan and even the world in recent years. It was designed on the basis of an ancient game, croquet, during the Tang dynasty.

Woodball possesses both the features of golf and croquet; meanwhile, it is an interesting, entertaining public sports activity which highlights the great importance of etiquette.

¡@¡@The creators of the sports activity, Mr. Weng and Mr. Yang Guang-chu, initially intended to enhance and glorify the Chinese traditional virtue of adoring elders and , at the same time, to enable their parents and older generation to live a delightful retiring life. As a result, they changed the mountain slopes into terraces in Taipei suburbs and embedded greensward on them to create a scenic, pleasant environment that would provide one with restful atmosphere through feeling the air as well as sunlight given by the mother nature. Their thoughtful deed reflected the modern concept and philosophy related to valuing nature, and they also dedicated themselves to inventing the playing tools with delicacy. It was on the picturesque field of Wai- shuang River that Woodball originated.

¡@¡@In 1990, the inventor of Woodball, Mr. Weng Ming-hui, purchased this land. At first, he hoped to build a garden on it as a resort for his parents. Later on, he found the land filled with grass, trees and also natural delights, which made Mr. Weng, fond of playing golf, start to hand make some simple playing tools not only for himself but for his parents to exercise on this scenic hill in addition to gardening or strolling.
