Combining
governmental and private resources, the Hope Agent Development Association has
implemented the Little Digital Hero Program to eliminate the digital divide of
aboriginal children and promote college students’ concern and responsibility
for the society. The Association recruited university volunteers to bring
technology and social care to the aboriginal children, assisted the students to
participate in Cyberfair, and improved the digital divide of aboriginal
students.

President of the Hope
Agent Development Association, Ms. Joanna Lei, chose the Little Digital Hero
Program as the university volunteer service project because the International
Schools Cyberfair and Taiwan Schools Cyberfair were regulated by UNESCO, so
that schools with different resources could have equal opportunity to eliminate
the digital divide. The Ministry of Education in Taiwan has invested in T1 school
network and achieved “computers in all schools”. Thus, the participation of
volunteer teachers could assist aboriginal children to overcome the digital
divide, have a successfully competition experience, become the new tribal
legend, and help the development of other aboriginal children.TOP

The volunteer
teachers are expected to send their energy and enthusiasm to places needed, and
introduce the competing aboriginal schools and tribes to more people. When the aboriginal
schools participate in the Cyberfair, they are not at a remote corner of the
globe, but on the same map as schools in developed countries.

Last year, we first
cooperated with Hongyeh Elementary School on the
theme of Taroko Balung, and won the Platinum Award. The whole team was
inspired. This study, we continue to work with them. With the spirit from the
past term, and the enthusiasm of this term, we are very optimistic about the
future. With the spirit of “Care with love, make history with hope”, we want to
help this small village to be seen in the world. After discussion with the
principle and teachers, we decided on the topic of 10 Mother with Loving
Hearts, and named the team “Taroko Warriors”. Everyone in the project will grow
