Farmers used a boat to pick water caltrop in the past.

There are two ways to pick water caltrop：

With a boat

In the past farmers used a boat to pick water caltrop in Zuoying, they sat in the front of the boat, and rowed it by their hands. When they picked water caltrop, they turned over blades of water caltrop to look for whether water caltrop mature or not.

Without a boat

Now, farmers pick water caltrop without a boat .

People invent a special clothes for picking water caltrop.

Now in Zuoying, the water caltrop fields mostly belong to shallow water fields, so farmers walk into the field directly without a boat and pick water caltrop by their hands. Some people invent a special clothes to protect their body, and they put picked water caltrop into a big aluminium basin.
