Jingmei Market

(By Megan and Amanda/Jingmei Market)

Like other markets in Taiwan, Jingmei Market, surrounding a national 3rd class historical site—Jiing Temple, was developed along Jingmei Stream toward the dock area (also today’s Jingmei Street.). As a temple volunteer told us the history of the temple, it also reflected Jingmei Market’s ups and downs in the past.

Jingmei Market is a huge traditional market where gathers hundreds of traders supplying all types of goods. Prices of these merchandises are twenty percent cheaper than those in other traditional markets. So, if you want to buy fresh stuff, you must come in the very early morning. If you want to get a cheap price, noon time is a good timing!

When you enter the Jingmei Market from Jingchung Street, you can see the market is divided into six areas: Market Entrance , Temple Entrance , the 1st Horizontal Street , the 2nd Horizontal Street , Jingmei Street  and the Border Areas. Each area has its unique characteristics.
