2. ‘ Pingpu Tune'- music score

In the area of Manchu (10km northeast to Hengchun city) people who sang folk song cared less about what the songs were called. They sang what they heard without knowing the name.

In 1940's, many people in this area sang this tune when they worked in the field. If you ask them what the song was, those old people would answer, ‘We sing what we heard, we don't know the name'. So some people gave it a name called Pingpu tunes. Pingpu is the name of a native tribe lived there. It is said that there was a Pingpu young man called Ga Bei, he work as a labor, not married, herding cattle for other people and sang these tunes all day. This was where the name came from: a tune that a Pingpu young man sang.

The original form of this tune has 2 sections. In 1952, Mr. Zeng Sin Der, the president of Manchu Elementary School, add the 3 rd sentence. With the lyrics he wrote, he named it ‘The Farming Song'. In that year, this song was selected by the Educational Department and taught all over the country. So the original is Pinpu tune, and Mr. Zeng made Farming tune. Farming tune with the lyrics by Mr. Zeng is the Farming Song.
