Interview _ Mr. Wu Wei Der

Lately, our team members were collecting information abut history, geography, and humanism of Hengchun. From the web site of To Truth Association, we got a lot of precious data. We thank all the people in this association for their generosity and devoting hearts. So our director, Mr. Liu, decided to take us to visit Mr. Wu Wei Der, the chairman of To Truth Association, on December 21.

We took 2 cars from our school on 1 p.m. As soon as we arrived the Chun Chern bookshop, Mr. Wu already waited there. Mr. Wu runs this bookshop. He invited us to the little Moon Light cafe that is a part of the bookshop. On the wall, there was a big map of Hengchu humanity tour information. He said that they made this map themselves. I was very impressed and respected Mr. Wu more.

At the beginning, our director talked about the Chun Chern Grocery store which has more than one hundred year's history. Then he said that the opening of Chun chern Bookshop helped all the intellectuals in Hengchun area, they don't need to go 100km away to buy a book they need any more. Besides, the founding of To Truth Association, we can see that Mr. Wu has a really deep emotion to this place, Hengchun.

Mr. Wu said, ¡¥I was graduated from Hengchun Elementary School in 1970. I am very honored to be interviewed by you. Chun Chern Grocery Store founded in 1879, five generations have passed since then. My mother runs the store now. We hired a keeper who came to our store at his sixteen or seventeen, and now he has worked for us for more than sixty years. He knows everything, and you can buy everything in Chun Chern Grocery Store.'

¡¥After many years' working in Taipei, I went back to Hengchun in 1997. Chun Chern Bookshop founded in 1999. There was a book called ¡¥The Map of Bookshop', it lists Chun Chern Bookshop as a characteristic bookshop, if you want to know more about Chun Chern Bookshop and Moon Light Cafe, you can visit our webs.'

We asked his opinions about the inheritance of Hengchun folk songs. He said, ¡¥Making an old folk song singer teach Yueqin and folk song singing to young student in school is not right, because young students have no interest in it. Forcing them to learn can't last long. Besides, nobody would listen to Hengchun folk songs in the old performance way. If we can add modern music concept into them and teach student to play Yueqin or sing folk song in a fresh way as they learn modern music, then they may be interested a little. As long as there is interest, it is easier to merge Hengchun folk songs into their life and inheritance will be no problem naturally. ¡¥

¡§Besides, if we can join sights touring, ancient city visiting, and listening Hengchun folk songs together, with the Yueqin that still made in the old stores and the houses near Ho Don Hill, we can organize a music village dedicate to Hengchun folk songs and make it an unique feature of this ancient city Hengchun. Let people be able to make a living by singing folk songs, how hard could it be to make the folk songs inherited?'
