The lighthouse is located on the hilltop at Yeliu on the northwest coast of Keelung. The lighthouse has advantageous geographic position in the middle of the lighting radius area between Fuguei Cape Lighthouse and Keelung Lighthouse. Yeliu Lighthouse was built to strengthen Aids to Navigation near Keelung Harbor for those vessels sailing nearby at night. |
The lighthouse was completed in December, 1967, and equipped with the fourth-class acetylene incandescent flash lamp which generated 3,800 candlepower light. |
The lighthouse was re-equipped with the electric lamp, and set up underground cables in March 1977. The lighthouse thus shone higher 28,000 candlepower light afterwards. |
