Question 31:The northernmost lighthouse in Taiwan?
A:Fuguei Cape Lighthouse
In 1896 during the Japanese Colonial Period, the Japanese government built its first lighthouse Fuguei Cape Lighthouse in Taiwan on the northernmost tip of Taiwan to facilitate undersea cables and navigational signals between Japan and Taiwan. At that time, Japanese carried all the building materials from Japan by sea directly. The construction was started since April 1st, 1986 and completed on February 24th, 1987. Then the lighthouse started its service officially soon after the completion. The navigational guiding task of the lighthouse is heavily affected by terrain and climate factors. It is foggy in autumn and winter over the sea, and there is changeable weather there. Therefore, the vessels are dangerous when passing by neighboring sea areas. To solve this problem, Japanese added horns used in foggy days to warn vessels. Over the century, the Fuguei Cape Lighthouse has been an important and outstanding landmark on the north coast in Taiwan. At present, through the linking pavement, visitors can enjoy remarkable coastal scenery, and see this time-honored monument of historical importance. Fuguei Cape Lighthouse stands 14.3 meters high, and is painted in black and white bands. The lighthouse was renovated into the present structure in 1962. It is an octagonal iron building and located on the northernmost tip of Taiwan.
