Question 30:The lighthouse with the largest third-class rotated lens in Taiwan Island?

A:Baishajia Lighthouse

Baishajia Lighthouse is located on the west coast in Taoyuan County. In 1896, the construction of the lighthouse started; however, a unprecedented strong typhoon happened to break the construction site into several mounds and some small streams, and to cause flood there. The terrain of the original site was changed. Therefore, the construction site was changed to the present site near the Shihguanyin Street. The movement cost lots of time and money. The reconstruction just started in 1898. The building was made of stones from Shihlin, and other building materials shipped from Tamshui through river transport. Besides, the construction was often interrupted by local bandits. The construction was a tough task at that time. The building was not finished until 1901. The lighthouse was made of bricks into tubular shape. It was equipped with the French kerosene lamp with the three-layer wick and third-class rotated lens. The lighthouse was re-equipped with the incandescent oil lamp in 1912.
