Question 17:The lighthouse funded by the United States?

A:Green Island Lighthouse

  Green Island Lighthouse is located at the northwest point of the Green Island. Before the lighthouse was built, the President Hoover liner of American President Lines. Ltd. (APL) struck against the reef on the north of Green Island, and was sunk in 1938.

  The lighthouse was built into tubular shape with concrete in 1939. The lighthouse was equipped with the third-class kerosene incandescent lamp that generated 200,000 candlepower light.

  The lighthouse was destroyed by air attack during the World War II.

  In 1948, the lighthouse was renovated and re-equipped with the fifth-class temporary direct current (DC) flashing light, which shone two flashes continuously every ten seconds with 2,600 candlepower light.

  In 1973, the lighthouse was re-equipped with the new-type alternating current (AC) electric lamp with the fourth-class rotated lens. The lighthouse shone two flashes continuously every twenty seconds with 1,000,000 candlepower light.

  In 1988, one radio beacon was set up. Its output power reached 100 Watt and radio range reached 100 nautical miles.

  The lighthouse is equipped with two-way radio communications devices.

  Height of Lighthouse: 33.3 meters

  Height of Light (above H.W.): 48.2 meters

  Nominal range: 25.7 nautical miles
