Place Description
Dong-Yin, located in the military restricted area, is mysterious to the outer world. People don't dare to keep close to it due to its martial tension there. Thanks to the modern technology, people now can know more about Dong-Yin through the illustration on the website as if they visited this place.
The elementary school graduates hope to leave unforgettable memory toward this place, so they voluntarily help to set up this introductory website. Though we don't have as the same resources as those from Taiwan Island; however, we have much warm-heartedness and enthusiasm to create a good website as well as good memories here.
Dong-Yin Lighthouse has been established more than 100 years. We Dong-Yin residents felt honored in the glorious years here in history.
Dong-Yin Lighthouse is in the northernmost side of the Taiwan territories. To Dong-Yin residents, the lighthouse is considered as the White Mansion like those white buildings in Greece in the Mediterranean Sea. The beautiful lighthouse has stood against time through these 100 years.
The lighthouse is an amazing scenic attraction where there are 2006 National Rock Fishing co mpetition, the Sword Grass Season , the C entennial Anniversary of Matsu Dong-Yin Lighthouse and so on. More and mor e activities will hold in Dong-Yin. Dong-Yin Lighthouse is like a harbor of refugee to the islet residents and the resort to travelers. This lighthouse is the tower of confidence to Matsu. It is also the distinctive landmark of Dong-Yin tourism industry. |

Strategic offshore islets of military importance feature mysterious places, small areas and few residents. After the abolition of the Martial Law now, locals started to transfer and develop tourism industry.
Dong-Yong Light House, the only third-class historical site, is the major scenic spot to attract tourists after it was open in 2005. To us students and residents, we are fortunate to live with this glorious historical site and witness this monumental historical building.
Therefore, we chose Dong-Yin Lighthouse as the topic of our project, and use tourism related objectives as our research directions to create this website . Military aspect:
Donying has military importance from its location. There are many kinds of armed services and branches in the islet, including Information Control Squadron, Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, Coast Guard, Missile Base, the navy commanding center, and so forth. Through our visiting and interview records, you can know more about military affairs in this small but really strategically important islet.
Cultural aspect:
As we use ¡§lighthouse¡¨ as our main theme of the project, we put much emphasis on cultural illustration. Tthrough interviews, internet surfing and data collection from books, we hope to build a lighthouse gallery on our website.
Historical aspect :
There are many beautiful and memorable legends about the lighthouse one hundred years long. So we invited many professional docents to gu ide us and illustrate the history here. We saw exterior structure of the building and interior equipment, met the lighthouse supervisor and lighthouse keepers, an d talked to residents and grand old men who knew much of the lighthouse. Through those interviews, we knew much about the history of the lighthouse and had different feelings toward the lighthouse.
Tourist aspect:
Dong-Yin was originally a primitive fishing village, inhabited with brave and diligent people. After the abolition of the Martial Law since 1992, Dong-Yin started to develop its tourism industry by utilizing its rich natural resources.
To find out its future directions and potential problems of the tourism industry here, we visited all tourism industries here. We hope we can lead Dong-Yin to a brilliant future.
Ecological information¡G
Dong-Yin features blue sea and fresh air. Its beauty comes from the presence of birds, plants, coastal rocks and rich marine resources. Those invaluable natural resour ces need our attention. Thro ugh,we hope children can understand they have rich resources here, and pass down the culture generations by generations.
Cultural information:
Dong-Yin, the home of arts and culture, stirs up emotions of both residents and tourists. This haunting island delivers nostalgia to Dong-Yin expatriates.
We hope to promote our homeland Dong-Yin in the world through our paintings, clay art works, literature, songs and memory.

Difficulties in doing field researches
Top |
1. Climatic factors ¡G |
The climate in tough in Dong-Yin where there are only freezing cold and boiling hot weathers. This strict condition made us painstaking when doing outdoor field researches near Dong-Yin Lighthouse.
A. It is boiling hot without shaded places in September and October near the Dong-Yin Lighthouse. Therefore, children fully sweated when they listened to our introduction or painted the lighthouse under the hot sun. It was so hot that they can only stay around the lighthouse more than two hours. They have to go back and forth outdoor and indoor to finish their reports.
B. It is sever cold in November and December near the Dong-Yin Lighthouse. Strong northeast monsoon is too violent for people to stand still. Besides, the protruding lighthouse on the cliff is dangerous for children to stay. Even though, we still have to fight for the weather everyday to finish our project.
2. Time Limit: |
Some species can be seen only in some season. The best observatory periods of Black-tailed Gulls and native fishes are in winter and summer respectively. However, the research schedule is set from September to December. Therefore, we could miss the breeding period of Black-tailed Gulls , which lasts from March to April every year. Meanwhile, we could not see , which happens during the spring vacation approximately. Therefore, it is a pity that we would miss diversity of species for our presentation.
As we know, students h ave the heavy load of schoolwork . Therefore, we tried to make use of our leisure time after school on weekend or Wednesday afternoon. As a result, not only teachers and students could not have enough rest, but also students had less time with their families. That could lead us teachers to a dilemma. |
3. Location factors: |
Though Dong-Yin is open to tourists now, due to its sensitive military restricted location, most areas are still forbidden, and not open to the public . Therefore, when we visited Information Control Squadron and Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, watched exercises, beforehand coordination and contact are very exhausting. Besides, because those places are military restricted, we cannot help but have to follow the ru les that we have to report our status and be inspected at each post. The well-known Dong-Yin Lighthouse is far to our school. It takes around one hour to get there from our school by foot, and it can be a long journey to us residents. The li ghthouse doesn't open to the public; therefore, it took us much effort to see the lighting equipment inside.
4. Anthropic factors: |
From the parents' side:
Most parents put emphasis on their children's school achievements, so they may scold teachers if their children are given too many extracurricular activities. Besides, most parents are into business, so they are too busy in holidays to help with school activities. It was too bad that those parents cannot understand what we were doing and had time to care about their children.
From the students' side:
It is hard for students to take care of both school work and extracurricular activities well. Those activities are often more attractive to students, so that students would have little interest in learning school lessons. It was a good chance to test children if they could handle those works well with their brains and physical energy.
Myself:
It is my duty and one major test to keep my enthusiasm toward the webpage design contest, and to lead students to learn this computer skill happily and actively.
5.Knowledge Management: |
After we attended this competition, we just knew that we still lack many skills like computer related skills and knowledge, writing the project schedule, know-how in field researches, interview methods and etc. In addition to the competition of webpage design, we also had much schoolwork to do that made us very tired.
What we have gained and experienced
Top |
1. Learning to respect Mother Nature: |
With the severe weather in Dong-Yin, we learn to be humble and diligent in hot summer and freezing winter. We also learned to complete this project more efficiently. Children feel warm in winter when they thought of warm memory in summer near the Lighthouse. On the way home, children felt happy, had unforgettable experiences and enjoyed the beautiful scenery near Dong-Yong Light House.
Only when we live with Mother Nature peacefully, can we live well in the world. |
2. Learning to treasure time ¡G |
We would rather praise the force that created the universe than complain about the flying time.
We pooled the wisdom of the masses: to enrich the introduction of terns with illustrated handbooks and documentary films.
We gathered the innovative ideas of the masses: to enrich our presentation of the lighthouse through documents of the C entennial Anniversary of Matsu Dong-Yin Lighthouse , rock fishing competitions, and so on.
We communicated with parents: to accomplish this project after home visits, parents' conferences and achievement exhibition.
Only when we work hard, can we have rich harvests.
3.Learning to care about our land ¡G |
Dong-Yin, one of the offshore islands, has little population and small areas. Though Dong-Yin is strictly controlled by martial laws, so that many marvelous natural sceneries are not polluted at present.
Anyone must be amazed at the extremely fine workmanship of tunnels. Forts of superb craftsmanship astonish every visitor as well. This unique Dong-Yin Lighthouse enriches our lives and has left everlasting valuable treasure to Dong-Yin residents.
Only when we care for the natural resources, can we have the sustainable environment. |
4. Learning to appreciate others: |
We shall thank support from those students' parents first, even though most of them didn't realize what we were doing. However, they never stopped their support and encouragement to us, so that we can be assured and relieved to do all those project activities after school.
We would like to thank all the students in the class to participate this project seriously as well. Although we felt tired and exhausted at times, we still didn't think of giving up at any moment. We supported and encouraged each other, and stuck to the project firmly. We also gained a lot through this activity.
Furthermore, we have to thank all the supports and assistances from CYCU students and faculty of our school to help us complete our tough tasks during every activity. We really cherished their kindness and help as our lifelong treasures.
Only when we appreciate others, can we be never helpless. |
5. Learning to know our weakness ¡G |
We asked for nothing, and expected to learn things from our project. We learned things from the very beginning. To get good grades, we aren't afraid of hardship and slow progress. We believed we could master all that we need to learn as long as we keep working hard on this project. We fulfilled our goals through home visits, interviews and records. We studied our lives by doing researches of our homeland, finished our project with passions, strengthened our weakness with diligent study and serious attitudes, and completed the brilliant web pages through our humble and studious attitudes.
Only when we study hard and behave ourselves, can we boost more self-development.
We finally succeed from our united effort and hard work during these four months, partly because we classmates are all devoted and responsible for the project, and partly because we had serious and careful teachers. In the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair, Dong-Yin's name spreads far nationally. Moreover, the teachers' support was one important factor of our success. Though we are about to graduate soon and may leave Dong-Yin in near future, we could still have a wonderful memory altogether because of this meaningful competition. ~~
Peiyuan
The Taiwan Schools Cyberfair is an interesting contest to me. During the production, we discussed the ways to promote the tourism industry here and tried to make Dong-Yin well known in the world. At the beginning, I thought the Cyberfair was a boring contest. While, I started to feel excited whenever I thought that I could compete with others with a computer. During the activity, we visited and talked with every family here, the Information Control Squadron, Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, Matsu National Scenic Area Administration and lighthouse keepers. Every visit impressed me, and I could still remember those interviewing processes even now. I thought that the Cyberfair activity requires efforts of both adults and children to complete, but without pressure. We had only the happy memories and interesting experiences at that time. We hope the activity could be held again, so that our juniors schoolmat es could also have this marvelous experience just like us. ¡ã¡ã Haowei
Since we had this Cyberfair, everyone felt like entering into the gaming world, and sometimes forgot to do their homework. I though we can get such a good grade because of everyone's hard work. Besides our great effort, our teachers' devotion is also one key point to our success. I think if everyone cooperates and does his/her job well, they can have great achievement as well. I hope everyone could pay attention to the competition every time. ~~ Wanrong
I was glad to join in this competition. Though our competition will end soon, I though it was the beginning of another world contest. During the production period, I saw everyone in my class was very serious and devoted. We had laughter and hardship during the competition. We though we had this unforgettable experience and happy memory. We aimed to let more and more people know the beauty of Dong-Yin.
¡ã¡ã Mingyi
In hearing our participation in the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair, each of us is very excited. In the beginning, everyone would leave message on the message board on the website, but later on most of them didn't do it frequently. However, we were still seriously visited in many places and doing interviews. We felt more cohesive and united after the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair. I felt happy that we didn't spend much time on the computers for playing games but for the contest. ¡ã¡ã Lisyan
I was glad to join the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair. After this activity, I knew more about Dong-Yin, computer software applications, and the details in visiting and interviewing. I learned a lot through this activity, and I hoped we could get excellent grades.
¡ã¡ã Linji
I learned a lot from this activity. For example, when I went to the military camps, I saw many guns and defensive weapons, which are rarely seen and not so dangerous as I originally thought. Beside this exciting experience, Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion is my favorite visiting place where I could see many marine equipment such as steamships, oxygen bottles, driving suits and etc. Everything I saw was really heavy, so we had to move them with great effort and carefully. I hoped I could visit there one more time. Those solders were spirited in their duty, and I thought I should learn their spirit.
¡ã¡ã Yancheng
As soon as the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair started, we p ut much effort in designing the website to increase our research hours. Besides, we spent much time in visiting m any places thought it is tiring and tough for us to complete the project. But I thought our hard work would gain its reward finally. I believed as long as we tried our best, we must succeed. Of course, our success didn't only rely on our own effort, but also came from kind support of many people. I'd like to thanks those who devoted themselves to the project and those who helped us to accomplish this project smoothly.
¡ã¡ã Chingdong
I felt everyone worked so hard to make this project successful and achieve the dream of our graduation trip. As long as we kept our enthusiasm toward this project, I thought we could achieve our goal, so that we could see our favorite teacher Ivy in the Graduation Trip in Taiwan. I hope all of us to do our best to make our dream come true!
¡ã¡ã Bingtao
We learned a lot from the Taiwan Schools Cyberfair, through the activity, we interviewed many people and knew their thoughts toward Dong-Yin. Besides, we saw each of us did our best for the project. I hope everyone worked hard to end this competition successfully with happy memory and hardworking experiences.
¡ã¡ã Weijei
Wow! Time flies. The competition is about to end soon. During these three months, we did lots of interviews and street survey happily and hard. Our teachers are the most hardworking persons indeed who devoted to this project fully, and of course, classmates all performed well. I reminded you all that besides leaving your messages here, remembering to work on your homework as well. I hope everyone could put as more effort as possible to make our project a successful one in the Cyberfair. ¡ã¡ãSianyin
It was interesting for me to attend this Cyberfair. I hope we could get the first prize to reward months of effort. During these months, we felt tough though, we never thought of giving up in every moment. The competition is about to end soon, I thought we should work harder to make us to have more cherished memories from this competition experience.
¡ã¡ã Chiwei
During the competition of the Cyberfair, we knew much knowledge. To win the first prize, we visited many places including the lighthouse, the Information Control Squadron, Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion , and the airport. I could sense everyone's great effort and we also became good friends with the interviewees. Besides, everyone did his/her best to increase the research hours and also the chance to win. I hope I could attend this kind of meaningful activity next time.
¡ã¡ã Jiajyu
For this competition, everyone of us is quite busy. To win the first prize, we visited many places including Information Control Squadron , Matsu National Scenic Area Administration and many other areas. We kept records seriously and put them together on the list back in school. Then we put those records on the web pages and open them to other people. I thought the reason why our teachers worked so hard was to let us leave good memory on this land and our elementary school before attending the junior high school. Therefore, we had responsibility to win the first prize to thank our hardworking teachers. Cheer up, everyone!
¡ã¡ã Yangjin
It was a great experience for me to attend this competition. All of us have our won account names and passwords. Besides, we had a nice team name ¡¨Enthusiastic Dong-Yin Tern¡¨. I thought we are as united as a group of terns to complete our tasks ^.^. Moreover, we could introduce our homeland Dong-Yin to other Taiwan residents and make this place known. Therefore, I thought we should work hard to create a good website in the Cyberfair.
¡ã¡ãJiawei
After attending this Cyberfair, I learned much knowledge, and had my own account name and password hence. Though all our hardworking during the contest, we finally finished this wonderful website. I would like to thank my teachers to give us this valuable experience. Though I thought it was pretty tough to interview, I thought those efforts worth it.

4. To interact with the community through the events, and further care about and contribute to their homeland |
This project was designed to map out the future prospect of the tourism industry in Dong-Yin:
The survey content focused on interviews at all tourism-related shops in the community. We hope to make a detailed investigation and then figure out local people's thoughts and ideas toward the tourism industry. Then we can work out the solutions to the problems and find out future directions of the tourism industry here. We hope this report would help promote the tourism industry in Dong-Yin.
Through the interviewing local people and trainings to introduce the lighthouse, students learned to care about their homeland, realize problems existing here, and think over difficulties affecting their hometo wn now. Children didn't realize their tight connection with their homel and until they started to pay attention to their homeland voluntarily, just as what the Lighthouse has done to us.

Residents in Matsu Islands have been controlled by military restriction for a long while. However, they have no objection to the restriction but anxiety and struggles for their lives. As fishermen, they are tolerate, humanistic , and interested in different kinds of things here. The gorgeous Dong-Yong Light House enables local people recreational, educational, and cultural development. It also helps the developments in local tourism, economics and arts. Visitors can have more viewpoints of this tourist lighthouse whenever they come here.

About the intelligent property issues
In the Centurial Anniversary of the Matsu Dong-Yin Lighthouse, Dong-Yin Township Office and Lienjiang County Government published a series of books related to Dong-Yong Light House. Therefore, we didn't have to put much effort on data collection. Also, students finished the project with both their physical and mental efforts. The whole website is our intelligence property except those quotes that have copy right issue from the internet information, charts and articles. We all informed them of our quotes in advance and asked for their agreement. Besides, we put on the originals of our reference materials on our web pages. As for the statistics of our studies, those were made from our own interviews and surveys. Therefore, we could say that we own the copyright of the presence on this website. |

What are our amazing discoveries ?
Because of this competition, we realized the beauty of the Dong-Yong Light House. After the researches, we found more beauty of our homeland, and the ways to promote the tourism industry here with the introduction of the lighthouse to other people who didn't know this place before. We are honored to live here. We have mission to promote our homeland and make it an ideal island to visit. One day, we hope Donyin become a dreaming place and are always glorious forever. |
