Introduction to PUSAU

Also called as sending-off ancestor ritual. When the tribe decided to migrate from cha chi lu dan, an old presbyter di sa vulu vulu insisted on staying there, and asked the tribal people to receive him after 5 years. When the chieftain designated someone to receive him, they found he had already become bamboos. Then, they had to chop off and bring back a section of bamboo. Thereafter, the noble chieftain decided to perform a ritual in honor of the presbyter.

This festival is held with the same rituals on the next year after Five-Year Maleveq. The only difference lies in djemuljat site for PUSAU, which is only applied for the ancestors. So, 1-m bamboo is a symbol erected at left side of the open ground of the chieftain¡¦s home.


  The villagers gather together to send off their ancestors.

An important activity of PUSAU is chopping bamboos competitively with the ghosts at cha chi lu dan. Those who arrive earlier can chop bamboos and bring back with the help of others.
