Brief
Introduction:
“Shelefafawu” Forest Park was previously
a forest wasteland in Laiyi Township Danlin Village, which was cultivated
by the villagers to create a cultural environment. “Shelefafawu” Park
means the starting point to Northern Dawu Mt. in Paiwan dialect, and also
an initial point of reconstructing traditional culture by the indigenous
people. The Road of Mountain-Climbing is a major path to old tribes of
Chaozhou and Northern Dawu Mt., but is gradually disused due to the development
of traffic. In recent years, this road has been resumed and become an
ecological classroom.

Scenery:
Paiwan Tribe is proud of abundant cultural
assets and tribal traditions with respect to traditional weaving, handicraft,
dancing, festival ritual and hunting, or historical exploration.

A 0.4-ha. primitive
forest in the community is full of Griffith’s ash and Scindapsus
aureus, mooing Muller’s Barbets and flying yellow butterflies as
well as an old path from Gulou Tribe to Taiwu during Japanese Occupation
Period.
This forest was
a former job site of a Forest Service. In the land reclaim movement
initiated by indigenous people, it was returned to the local township
government by the Forest Service, but then became a dumping site
due to the poor management. According to a rehabilitation aid project
of Social Welfare Bureau of the county government in 2001, a forest
park of Paiwan Laiyi style was built up with the planning, construction
and management of communal people. |

Old
Forest Path:
This path to the mountainous area is a 10-mile old
road from Gulou Tribe to Taiwu during Japanese Occupation Period. Today,
this path has been rebuilt by the villagers to the peak of Mount Tsingzhi.
On the way, there are two attractive points, one is a platform overlooking
Walushi River, and the other one is a gigantic stone called dinosaur’s
stone. This path is extended to South Dawu Mt.. In this region, there
are 40-50 types of plants, of which including original plants in Taiwan,
such as Ehretia microphylla and Calophyllum, and also some kinds of birds
such as wood thrush, and hovering crested serpent eagles. This is an ideal
path for ecological tour.
