For understanding more about Taipei 101, we have interviewed many of her high-ranking managers, working personnel and visitors.

Her Public Relation Manager Mr. W. Hsieh said, Taipei 101 is an international sightseeing tower formed from 43 international teams. Its construction was successfully completed after 7-year implementation. Among them, the team we feel most grateful to was 1200 nos. of Thai workers. During the construction of the project, the dirtiest, worst-smell, the highest and the most hazardous work items were all carried out by them. They were really good at work and properly followed all the regulations. They didn’t eat betel nut. They had collectively stayed at Linko and commuted to work daily with provided transport vehicles. Thai cuisine meals and Thai magazine were provided to them either. After 7 years of hard work by numerous workers, there was no dispute occurred with their employer. This is another aspect Taipei 101 is really proud of.

The land of Taipei 101 is owned by the City Government. It was built with BOT scheme. Build, Operate and Transfer, i.e., it was invested and built by private sector and after operating for 70 years, it will be transferred to the Taipei City Government. In other words, Taipei 101 was built in 1997, after operating for 70 years, it will be transferred to the Taipei City Government in 2067.

During 7-year’s construction, 5 workers died due to the earthquake occurred on March 31, 2002 so that its construction was suspended for some time. Later, another electrician died because of an electric shock. In future, Taipei 101 will build a memorial wall for remembering these partners who had dedicated and sacrificed for the construction of Taipei 101.

Taipei basin was a lake in the past. The earth under ground level is mostly muddy clay. The difficulty of building a megastructure on such unstable foundation base is very high. Therefore, the underpinning of Taipei 101 was very deep. It was placed 80 m below the laccolith so that it is very stable.

Taipei 101 is a landmark building. As it is high so it is very windy up there. Whenever a typhoon comes, journalists prefer to report the typhoon striking condition while holding a tree under the tower for obtaining an exaggerative effect.

This year’s Double-tenth National Day, the scenic spots originally arranged for the home-coming Oversea Chinese such as Lungshan Temple etc were later changed to Taipei 101. They were very happy for having the opportunity to see Taiwan’s prosperity and progress.

Since last year, New Year welcoming party has been jointly presided by Taipei City Government and Taipei 101 with the final countdown and fireworks. When magnificent fireworks are shot from Taipei 101 in outburst, the whole world is watching. This is a pride of all of us!

We have interviewed the working personnel of the M&E Division, the tour guide lady of View Point Stage, the cleaning personnel holding baskets like going on a picnic and security guard of outdoor View Point. They all said they like the working environment like this one in Taipei 101. If there is any opportunity, they still would like to work in its other division. They consider Taipei 101 is very beautiful and very proud of having the opportunity to work in such gorgeous world’s tallest building and to serve domestic and foreign visitors. What they expect most is to get visitors to know the beauty and sophistication of Taipei 101.

Plenty of tourists come from abroad. Some are here attracted by its reputation as a scenic spot, some are accompanied by their relatives or friends. They said looking down from View Point Stage, Taipei is very clean but there is not sufficient green plantation. It’s a pity. Next time, they would bring their family here for experiencing the views from the world’s tallest building.

There are lots of home-coming Oversea Chinese among the visitors. Most of them have stayed in abroad for some time and then they would like to come back to Taiwan for experiencing it. When they are here in Taiwan, they would certainly bring their family or relatives and friends along with them. They feel Taipei looks very crowded when looking down from Taipei 101. Taipei is really a place of dense population!

What an Oversea Chinese from Australia expressed with his Mandarin of imperfect pronunciation made me feel very proud of Taiwan, he said “Although Taiwan is such a small land but she has built the world’s tallest building. It’s really incredible!”
