The Concept of Operation for the Rapid Transit

•The services are all customer-oriented. We hope to provide a safe, comfortable and disability-free transportation for the people.
•The trains operation is controlled by the central computer system. There is no delay and no traffic lights. The trains run on a fixed schedule. Headway between trains is short, so it is not necessary for the passengers spending much time waiting the train.

    For Women

Safety Measures for Female Passengers
I
n order to assure the safety of female passengers, the Rapid Transit have adopted the following measures:

Notation System
In the waiting area for female passengers, there are consistent, readable and colored notations. They are special signs for waiting, emergency help button and intercom.
The spatial design
(1) easy to view
(2) no dead space in the public space
(3) proper lighting

Surveillance system
 
   Surveillance cameras are installed in the areas that supervising staff may not watch easily and images are sent and viewed in the information desk and control center.

Disability-free measures
The disability free designs help the disabled, pregnant women and people with strollers.
Nighttime waiting area for women
        Whe
n the help button is pressed, the surveillance camera will shoot the area and images will be video taped. The alarm in the information desk and the waiting area will sound loudly. The staff will try to control the situation and broadcast warning messages.

 

 

    For the Disabled

Disability-free Facilities
        
For the visually impaired, disabled and elderly, Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Company tries its best to provide safe and convenient transportation services. Disability -free facilities inside or outside of the stations, platforms and cars are well designed.
Outside the stations
    
        Signs are installed beside the barrier-free path outside stations, leading people with disabilities to use ramps to the entrance or elevator. Guide Pass for the Blind. Ramps are installed for people with disabilities to enter the station safely.
Inside the stations
        (
1) For the safety of the visually impaired, disabled, elderly or temporarily encumbered (people with heavy baggage, strollers etc.), elevators are provided in all stations in both the concourse and passenger areas.
        (2) Signs for disability-free facilities are placed in front of the information desk, people can find assistances easily.
       (3) Every station has at least one automatic ticket vending machine set at wheelchair height and close to the entrance from the disability-free elevator.
       (4) Dedicated cubicles, urinals and washbasins are installed in the toilets for the use of disabled and mobility-impaired passengers.
       (5) At least one payphone for use by the disabled or wheelchair passengers is facilitated in the public area. Stickers of signs can be found on the payphone.
        (6) Stickers of signs of a wheelchair direct the disabled from the elevators to the platform. Signs are also placed on the pathway on the platform for the disabled to recognize the entrance door.


Safety Facilities-Car
       
Although passengers in wheelchairs may board the train from any door, boarding from the lead carriage( the first and fourth door) is recommended safety and better services, Spaces for wheelchairs are located at both ends of train behind the driver’s compartment with handrails. Signs outside the train indicate wheelchair spaces inside the train.

    For the Visually or Aural
    Disabled

1.    For the visually disabled, there is barrier-free path outside stations. The route goes:

Outside the station –  Elevator –  Mail Hall – Information Desk and Disability-free Gates - Elevators

2.     The tap is heat sensitive.

3.     Signs are installed in the main passageways direct disabled passengers to elevators that provide access to the station and the platforms.
        Updates heari
ng impaired and other passengers on Metro related news. In the event of emergency, the display system will also provide constant updates.

4. Indicator lights for the hearing impaired are located on the concourse and platform levels of Taipei Main Station. In case of emergency, the light will keep flashing to remind hearing impaired passengers to leave the station immediately.

5. Destination indicator, station indicator and train route indicator are provided in the elevators.

    Conclusion

        The designs of system are all made with the concerns for the disable and minor groups. To provide a good transportation and better services to all people is the goal that the company pursues.
