Elementary School

　　 Tungching Elementary School is a beautiful elementary school where Aunt Shu-lan’s was schooled, in front of the school-gate there is a beautiful shell-filled sandy beach that faces Tungching Bay, and it was here that Aun Shu-lan had spent an enjoyable period.Aunt Shu-lan said, “From my memories I can best remember a elementary school teacher who gave me a fountain pen at my graduation that moved me very much, since I did not do well academically and was not pretty so I was not favored by the other teachers,” and she also said, “although I performed ordinarily at school he had noticed me, so until now I still am grateful!”

Junior high-school

　　 Aunt Shu-lan went to the only junior high school on the island, Lanyu Junior High, after finishing elementary school.The elementary school graduates from other elementary schools also gathered there.She said that she met many good friends there, including Li-Mei Cheng, who works with her at the clinic.However not all her friends were as lucky as her to be still happily alive and in good health, as the person with cancer in the film, “In The Face of Evil Spirits”, was also one of her good friends, who, at the point when she was about to spread her wings and live a beautiful life, was robbed of all that by sickness.Aunt Shu-lan said that she was grateful to her friend and her friend’s family to have allowed filming, which had touched many people and compelled them to join her work in homecare and caring for the elderly people.

Choosing NursingSchool

　　 Why did she go to nursing school?Aunt Shu-lan said that it was quite a coincidence, as in the year when she graduated from junior high-school there were two sponsored spaces to send qualifying island students to the National Taichung Nursing College, so even though she had wanted to go to an average senior high-school and then university, she thought that becoming a nurse could also fulfill her dream as a child of helping people after growing up, especially people in Lanyu.Furthermore, her grades had more evidently improved in junior high-school and her family was supportive, so she decided to go to National Taichung Nursing College.
