Time
of Cultivating
The
famous writer Chin Han once said, "everyone is a farmer,
working tirelessly in the field of time". In the past sixty
years, Houli's saxophone industrialists have been working hard
in the land of the western musical instrument. In the last six
months, our team has been making an effort to faithfully record
the history of this industry. Even though we all grew up at different
points in time, we all converged onto the same space at the same
time so that we could have the chance to see the results of last
generation's hard work. This is such an exciting experience! The
only thing I could do is to keep encouraging myself to safeguard
and promote this cultural asset that our forefathers had created!

Embracing
Hometown's Beauty¡@
¡@¡@If
I haven't participated in this research project, I wouldn't have
known about this proud saxophone industry in Taiwan. If I haven't
visited the place myself, I wouldn't have had the chance to know
the humanity-rich Houli. Having participated in the cyberfair,
I rediscovered my love for the hometown, as well as learned how
to appreciate and cherish the beauty of the hometown. The cyberfair
is unquestionably the largest grass-root party in Taiwan! |

Discovering
Taiwan's Vitality
¡@¡@Even
though we are unable to change our lives, we could change our
point of view on life; even though we are unable to change our
environment, we could change our attitude to accept any challenges.
Houli's saxophone industrialists represent the resiliency of Taiwan's
small businesses. When faced with the low-cost challengers from
the developing countries, they use an upbeat attitude, innovative
thinking, and improved quality level as their tools for survival,
and they have been successful in fending off the competition.
We are moved by this embodiment of Taiwan's vitality! |

¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@¡@Metamorphosis
At
the moment our project was finally completed, I was feeling the
kind of joy that is akin to a caterpillar metamorphoses into a
butterfly. Perhaps the days were busy and tense for a caterpillar,
but just thinking of the day when the wings will take shape and
the ugly caterpillar will turn into a beautiful butterfly is much
like thinking of the day when the project will be completed. All
the negativity of the entire process will instantly disappear.
It is not something that can be accomplished overnight; it is
the result of having worked hard all along the way. |

Passing
Torches
¡@¡@From
working on this research project, I began to realize how unselfish
the Houli people truly are. It is a rare commodity in this materialistic
society. Starting from Mr. Lian-Chang Chang as the first generation,
they have all been very selfless, which enabled the saxophone
industry to take root in Houli, and it made this industry blossom,
from generation to generation. They worked as a group, and they
did not let this special skill become extinct. It is touching
to hear a story of people passing torch onto the next generation,
and it could serve as an example for other traditional local-specific
industries. |

Wish
to Always Have a Dream by the Side
¡@¡@Like
everything else, life has an expiration date as well. I suggest
people to always do what they really want to do as early as possible.
If they just keep the dream inside and not do anything about it,
then the end result is that they will be missing out on the dream.
I have been dreaming of becoming a musician since I was little,
and I have been working hard to reach that goal. I know I will
fully realize that dream one day. This research project is a perfect
match for my dream in terms of main topic and contents. It gave
me a major encouragement, reminding me that life if beautiful
when there is a dream to live out. |

Fate
and Life As One
¡@¡@This
is a generation of "forgetting our hometown", because
the people who live in the city's concrete jungle have already
lost that sense of hometown hospitality. Therefore, we need to
know the basic "hometown culture", so we could achieve
the ideal of "fate and life as one". Everyone's heart
will have an image of a perfect, unforgettable, warm, and sweet
hometown. The research project of cyberfair is bringing back my
deep affection for the hometown! |
