Food is definitely one of the most important factors of culture.
Expatriates miss their mother’s home cooking most. So, why
did we choose Howgi Tan-a-Mi as the topic of our research project?
Not just for its fresh and delicious broth, but also because
Tan-a-Mi signifies early Taiwanese spirit and tells stories
about Taiwan’s history.
their specialty Tan-a-Mi, Howgi also works hard to create hundreds
dishes. What most special is their
interior design. From table to washrooms, hallways
to walls, etc. everywhere, is decorated with Taiwanese folk
art pieces, such as posters, antique paintings, artifacts, furniture,
etc. Everything tells a certain story of Taiwan’s history.
Therefore, besides the unforgettable taste of Tan-a-Mi, customers
can also experience the beauty of Taiwan’s past.
We spent a lot of efforts
to instruct young students who are used to fast f ood
to conduct this research. From information
Lee Chun Chih
gathering, live observation, first-hand
interviews, to website construction, these students had strived
hard to accomplish this task. Not only the students but also
the i nstructors have learned
a lot from doing this project.
Through exploring Howgi Tan-a-Mi, we have built up a bridge
of tradition and culture to Taiwan’s
past. The connection is strengthened and the memory is intensified
in our mind. We hope our project will inspire you in the way
we are inspired as well!
